Books List & Strategy for IAS UPSC 2016 Prelims

Dear friends,
After 2days feedback sheets given by you, we have decided to give u a detailed list of material books to be used. Remember this is only for Sankalp students appearing in 2013 and attending weekends batch, and finding less time to study.

Clearing Prelims is all about doing same things again and again from a single source, and not running for study material here and there.

1.
Indian Polity by M Laxmikant
No any second source. Just one book. There is no alternative to it. You must read it at least 5-10 times. Dont make notes. Its not possible. Read every line and when u read every chapter, every line 4-5 times, u will remember most of it. here u shud be able to answer any question that comes from anywhere in the book.
No need to make seperate notes of this book, just mark important points and memorize them.Keep a track of current affairs and study the themes and concepts from this book.

2. Indian History –
NCERT 7 to 10 Social Science. Then NCERT Class 11,12 History.
a)Refer to the quiz questions as given by Madam and discussions following them very religiously. This actulaly saves ur 50% Time.
b)Also, refer Spectrums handbook of modern history..its useful as many snippets are found in this. But a GS Manual and MCQ ,studied in GD is seriosuly recommended.
c) U will get many MCQ's from GS Manual(Recommened= Tata McGraw Hill....Study method=Group Discussions in class)

3. Geography -
- NCERT Social Sciences 7-10 & then Indian geography books (2 of them) 11th & 12th NCERT. Again do 4-5 times.
Any question coming from it should be answerable. Dont be the fool who has read the book but is not able to answer question from it. Dont just learn facts, but try to know the answeres to questions "why"..supplement this by current affairs part...eg: locate Singapore on the map,is it a nation? if u r not able to answer, it means u r not honest in ur effort. You have to do all of the above.
Again,U will get many MCQ's from GS Manual (Recommened= Tata McGraw Hill....Study method=Group Discussions in class)

4. Indian economy –
For best strategy, you will need to have a two level approach:-
a_)NCERT (10, 11, 12). If you can’t grasp formulas, leave them. Just try to understand the basics only
b)Regular reading of Economy section of newspaper (The Hindu or Indianexpress, whichever you can get.)
c)  Notes of Vajiram or Shreerams IAS, Now in our Library,These contain static material( theory) & need to be supplemented with current affairs( everyy Sunday Current affairs sessions in class)

5. Ecology & Environment, & General Sciences:
refer class notes.

CSAT Paper-2
Practise tests in class and as recommened by faculty.

Rest of the books will be mailed in later stages.

To be clear, if we are scoring less in GS, prelims or mains it only because of lack of honest and hard work. Its not possible to NOT clear prelim after having done all of the above 5-6 times. honesty ,Consistency, hard work & discipline is required.
In a nutshell,
Maintain your current affairs notes, Don’t look for shortcuts. If you get some good coaching note, use it to upgrade your own notes.

Note:
1.Dont join and postal course without consulting us.Sankalp Test series is far better enough than many of Delhi wala tests. We are already doing ur part of logistics. U just study and suceed.
Happy studying.
2.Make best possible use of Free Study room, Free library and use late evening times for GD’s & Consultations with faculties.
